Homer and Elsie Hickam are Sonny's parents. His father was over the mine in Coalwood, WV. Elsie always supported Sonny in his rocket building dream. Sonny and his father were not close and had many differences. Elsie loved the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Jim

Jim Hickam is Sonny's older brother. Jim blamed Sonny for everything. He was a star football player and ladies man. He was a stylish person and very popular.
